BEST VINTAGE
Sitting in Newcastle’s prime vintage shopping zone, Best Vintage is a hotspot for quaint frocks, period designs, a wonderful selection of accessories and piles of one-off vintage gems. Best Vintage also offers a 10% student discount!

TYNESIDE CINEMA
The Tyneside Cinema hosts an impressive array of films – from all the big blockbusters as well as niche gems gracing their screens. Sit amongst stunning mosaics and décor inspired by the orient or relax in their Internezzo bar with a drink. Brilliant atmosphere and a cultural mecca – the perfect place to start any night out!

THE BALTIC CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART
Take a stroll over the stunning Millennium Bridge to The Baltic gallery. It’s housed works by the infamous Damien Hirst and Anthony Gormley, as well as exhibiting talent from local artists. There are great quality restaurants and bars inside the building and you can catch an incredible view of the city’s most famous stretch of bridges from the open-decked viewing box on the top floor. Its ever-changing collection makes The Baltic an eclectic venue and definitely a must-see!

THE SAGE GATESHEAD
The Sage Gateshead is an amazing home for live music designed by Lord Foster on the landmark waterfront site, facing The Baltic. Comprising four grand halls with outstanding performance spaces, this building has played host to myriad performers and even has its own orchestra! Check out what they’ve got planned for the coming season – you certainly won’t want to miss out.

ELECTRIK SHEEP
Owned by local design company Reluctant Hero, Electrik Sheep sell everything from t-shirts and belts to cutesy gadgets and contemporary art; as long as it’s quirky and design-conscious they’re happy to help. At the back of the store there’s a gallery space where Electrik Sheep host art exhibitions, often ending up like street parties with the amount of interest they attract!

HEATON PERK
A perfectly kitsch cafe with mismatched tables and chairs, a pre-war radiogram and 1950s-style shelving piled high with every board game you can think of. Sample a panini and drool over the home-made cakes while you bury yourself in one of the books that line the walls.

TOKYO BAR
Tokyo has a fantastic New York vibe spread over three floors. The music is always upbeat and eclectic and a spot on the candlelit roof terrace is one of the city’s most sought-after locations. Talented DJs spinning music you can bop to, a cocktail list as long as your arm and an energy that can’t be beat make this a seriously cool place to spend an evening.

WHQ
World Headquarters is like a magnet for brilliant music. Resident DJ Tommy sets the mood for the nights there, alongside performances from the likes of Roots Manuva and Zinc. You’re pretty much guaranteed musical satisfaction, with everything from reggae and soul to groove and electro pumping through the sound system.

LITTLE SAIGON RESTAURANT

If you appreciate the many tastes of Eastern Asia, you will love Little Saigon. They manage to capture the overarching feel of a small Vietnamese village and pair it with a really warm atmosphere. The flavours are immense, the menu is vast and exciting and the prices are so low you could probably eat there every day!

THE HEAD OF STEAM

The Head of Steam bar is the ultimate chill-out bar in Newcastle. Directly opposite Central Station, The Head of Steam is a two floor haven for anyone who likes their laid-back vibe served with a choice of live music and DJs. The lower floor hosts live acts, while upstairs is lively with an easy-going atmosphere. The cluttered interior and array of world beers makes this a great place to kick back, relax and enjoy!
