JUMP!

We've just come across these amazing images from a Philippe Halsman exhibition at the Laurence Miller Gallery in New York. It’s called Jump and it’s made us want to be in the Big Apple even more than usual!

An accomplished photographer and a close personal friend of Albert Einstein, Halsman  moved to the US from France and found work with top publication Life Magazine. He began to collaborate with the weird and wonderful Salvador Dali in the 1940s and the pair produced a book comprising solely images of Dali’s moustache!

In the early 50s he hit upon the brilliant idea of asking his famous and influential subjects to jump into the air for a few extra snaps at the end of a shoot. We’ve been totally inspired by the results and really want to try it out for ourselves – we love the way that when they’re poised in mid-air the models seem so little like their public personas. Richard Nixon smiles, Audrey Hepburn looks totally carefree and a brunette Brigitte Bardot looks, well, still completely stunning.

It’s on until 28th May so if you get the chance, go take a look on our behalf!
