THE BEAUTY OF A PEARL …
Posted on July 2, 2010
One of the girls on the buying floor told us about the work of her very talented friend, jewellery designer Melanie Georgacopoulos. Half Greek, half French and with an MA from the Royal College of Art, her designs exude a daring, yet timeless simplicity.
Fascinated by the natural beauty of pearls, through her work Melanie experiments endlessly in a bid to remove the stones connation with ladies who do lunch. Defying tradition, she re-constructs and de-constructs the pearl by introducing toughness, weight and volume.
Her gold covered pearl necklace is a far cry from a 'girly' string of pearls, while her hollow pearl ring is a piece we're dreaming of having on our finger. Taking the pearl into high art and fashion, yet remaining utterly wearable, it’s no wonder that Dover Street Market have snapped up her work … get down there to have a look through the glass cases and make a wish.

Beautiful pieces of jewellery. The ring is absolutely magnificent! Such a modern twist on the classic elegant image of pearls. Love it!

I can’t believe that I find every single one of the jewellery making studen’t pieces wonderful. I’d buy them all up if I could! They’re all great to me because they are not your typical pearl ‘hand me downs’ that I have never even received anyway! HA HA
Pearls for a new generations. I love it all.
