THE FULL REPORT: MICHAEL VAN DER HAM

As you probably already know, we're huge fans of Michael van der Ham. After collaborating with him on a capsule collection which hit stores just in time for London Fashion Week, we couldn't wait to see what he had in store for SS12.

USE1

Known for his ladylike collaged dresses, this season, Michael moved his vision forwards and designed with a more grungy, laid-back woman in mind. As he explained after his show, it was Joseph Szabo's photography which inspired him to create a collection for a cooler girl.

While Michael may have still drawn inspiration from vintage silhouettes and fabrics, for SS12, his signature collaging had a fresh new twist. Abstract brush strokes, intricate feather prints, geometric patterns and even confetti became hybrids, covering different sections of layered dresses and striking full-lenth gowns.

The dress may have remained the focus of Michael's collection but separates were also thrown into the mix. Crepe de chine shirts were teamed with cotton-satine two-tone ankle-skimming trousers to stunning effect.

There were so many pieces we adored but the embossed brocade floral trousers in coral and turquoise with gold and silver lurex literally had us scribbling want, want, want in our notepads. Teamed with Michael's collage print tee and structured tweed jacket, we're desperate to rock them come spring.

Michael's accessories were also particularly strong, as was the styling by Christopher Shannon. From candy-coloured skinny patent belts and sparkling clutches to Christian Louboutin's collaged T-bars and Linda Farrow sunnies, we can't wait to see the style set in their Michael Van Der Ham's come spring. Trust us, they'll be wearing it – Michael's collection was his best yet!

If you missed Michael's show, you can watch it here and if you're not already, be sure to follow him on Twitter - he's one of the lovliest designers we know.
