Since Craig Lawrence graduated from Central Saint Martins in knitwear, he has become one of the most exciting names on the London scene. Now in his sixth year of NEWGEN sponsorship, his pioneering knitwear label has continued to push boundaries through it's continuous experimentation with artisnal techniques.
For SS12, Craig looked to broaden his brand and move his signature knitwear forwards into a new chapter. As soon as the first few models made their way onto the catwalk in luxe metallic knitwear – a raglan sleeve sweater worn with shimmering leggings, or a breathtaking off-the-shoulder gown with a pleated drop skirt – there was a new, and immediate sense of luxuriousness.
With each look, the effect became more other-wordly, almost nymph like. Crystal yarns were woven into dresses to stunning effect, while hot-fix crystals added bursts of embellishment. The white stalagmite-esque headwear pieces, and the foil Rose gold tights by Paternity also helped transform his girls into other-wordly goddesses.
In ivory and shell tones, the Craig Lawrence woman was much softer, more feminine than we've seen previously. We particulary loved the bodycon dresses layered over leggings as well as the flowing pleated knit dresses.
After the delicate yet striking collection shown today, we can guarantee that you'll be hearing a the name Craig Lawrence a lot more come SS12. Watch this space!
