"Carrie Bradshaw heels!" whispered the editor next to me at the 3.1 Phillip Lim show. She was referencing a pair of white pumps on the opening look not seen on anyone remotely fashionable since Sarah Jessica Parker wore her Dior pair to Paris (and had to wash them in a fountain). But there they were, a pair of pristine white pumps that announced a highly graphic collection.
From the very first look, we knew this was going to be a show that we'd adore and want to wear! Who doesn't love a pristine cape? Mostly monochrome and minimal, this was a collection designed with a strong woman in mind. Think sleek jackets, ribbed knits and sharp trousers. Backstage, we found out that Lim had had superheroes in mind while designing for AW12 and looking back, we weren't at all surprised.
At the end of the show, Lim flashed the audience a quick peace sign before retreating backstage – but if we're being honest, we'll have no peace at all until we get our hands on the green wool bomber jacket and a removable plastic collar from his new collection.
