CATCH UP WITH THE GIRLS AT TOPSHOP HQ

Topshop HQ is bursting at the seams with lots of talented and hardworking girls, so each month we catch up with a different member of the team to find out about how they got started in the industry and what they get up to each day at work. Last month we spoke to Melinda Kennedy to get an insight into International Marketing, and this month we've zoned in on the merchandising team to speak to Merchandise Admin Assistant Ayesha Zamal to find out what she loves about her job.

My job title is… Merchandise Admin Assistant on Make-up.

And that means… I ensure that stock is in the right volume, at the right place, at the right time.

I studied… Psychology at Nottingham University.

I got my job by… winning a cage fight against two other girls. Just kidding! I saw the job advertised on the Milkround newsletter and I applied online.  Previous to this I had done work experience as a fashion intern and then editorial assistant.

In a typical working day… I look at stock levels and sales in our stores and send stock where needed, allocate new lines that come in, work with my AM and Merchandiser to see how we can maximise sales in stores that are over/underperforming, liase with our wholesale partners and organise what selection of our lines to send to them, speak directly with stores about any stock issues, speak with the buying team and VM comms coordinator about new branches and what stock they’re going to require and what fixtures they will need, the list goes on…

The best thing about my job is… seeing how a product moves from conception to production and how it translates into sales.  We move at such a fast pace; I’m never bored, there’s always something new on the horizon.

When I was growing up I wanted to be… a vet, until someone told me that would involve cutting animals open, which pained my 8 year old heart.

I couldn’t do my job without… the rest of the team. We’re lively and close knit; I laugh every day.

My advice to students hoping to crack the fashion industry would be… stay hungry (not literally!) you must love what you do. It’s a tough industry but there is absolutely no reason why it can’t be you that succeeds.

My signature style is… I aspire to be somewhere between Ashley Olsen and Kanye West?

And my hero piece for this season is… anything Hawaiian print.

When I’m in London, my hottest hang-outs are… Gaby’s Deli and Meat Liquor for Food, Dover Street Market for aspirational shopping, The Social for drinks, Notting Hill Arts Club, C.A.M.P in Old Street and Plan B in Brixton for music.

And when I’m in my hometown I love hanging out at… home! I feel like I’m always in transit so when I finally get to Richmond I tend to resume my life as a hermit.

I can’t live without… my mum (and the internet!)

My favourite magazine is… Vogue Italia, Love, Industrie, Stylist

I love grabbing my lunch from… Rice Wine on Brewer street.  It sells amazing sushi for next to nothing.

On my iPod right now is… A$AP Rocky, Girl Talk, Frank Ocean, Drake, Iggy Azalea, Aaliyah…

As a special treat, I love to… buy red velvet cupcakes for other people so I feel less guilty when I inevitably eat 80% of them. Also read Take a Break (contents include Life! Death! Prizes!)

In five years I’d like to be… happy and still in the Fashion Industry…

We'll be back next month with another catch up but in the meantime, why not check out our Tumblr, and see what the girls in our office are wearing right now.
