We don’t know about you but here at Topshop we love nothing more than getting dressed up! So as you can imagine, we could hardly contain our excitement when we heard that London’s Victoria & Albert Museum (better known as the V&A) were opening their refurbished Fashion Galleries with an exhibition dedicated to the ballgown!
Now we’ve never really worn a ballgown (not one with a big skirt anyhow) but can imagine how wonderful it must feel to step out into the night dressed like a princess! ‘Ballgowns – British Glamour Since 1950’ features around 60 dresses worn for private parties, royal balls, state occasions and opening nights so be prepared to fall head over heel with a dress, or three!
Partly from the V&A’s incredible collection – think Zandra Rhodes and Hussein Chalyan – as well as dresses lent by designers such as Erdem and Jenny Packham, it’s set to be a real treat. While we can’t wait to see all of the dresses on show, we’re most excited to examine the selection of royal ballgowns on display – especially the one by couturier Norman Hartnell.
So if you’re in London or planning a visit, put a trip to the V&A at the top of your must-see list. It’s on until 6th January so don’t miss out!
