STORYVILLE TIME!

Fancy a little taste of New Orleans, circa 1905, right here in the heart of London’s East End? Look no further – this coming Saturday, NightJar will be hosting a hot-blooded tribute to the infamous city of ‘blood, lust and magic’, filled with traditional music, speakeasy cocktails and non-stop dancing. Sounds like our kind of night!

Held in Shoreditch’s Factory 7, Storyville is set to recreate the bordello culture that bore the likes of Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton (now there’s a name to remember), a.k.a. the epic era of Jazz.

Featuring Nightjar’s regular musicians,  The Basin Street Bawlers, Brass Volcanoes and Dom and the Ikos, expect to be transported back to the Belle Epoque via a musical journey from early Ragtime and booming brass-band parades to the stomping rhythms of Professor Longhair and Fats Waller.

And as if all that wasn’t enough to entice you in, the events team have promised to push the boundaries with an array of dancers and interactive performers to ensure all your toe-tapping sensibilities are kept well and truly in check. Add to that, delicious delicacies from the Delta (Jumbalaya anyone?) and traditional Deep South drinks courtesy of the Big Easy and you officially have a night of revelry to remember.

Taking place this Saturday 11th August from 7pm-4am, get your tickets now to make sure you don’t miss out. Dress code – ‘Bordello Chic’ – see you there!

We love this shot captured by photographer E.J. Bellocq around the turn of the century in one of the pleasure houses of the Original Storyville in New Orleans and will definitely be sporting striped tights come Saturday night.
