THE FULL REPORT: PETER PILOTTO AW13

All things Spanish was the name of the game at Peter Pilotto‘s AW13 show. Mariachi coats swung trapeze and the add-on cape was the feature of the moment so to temper the elaborate details of the clothes, the hair and beauty was muted, clean and sheen.

Wax On Hair

Anthony Turner was back once again in the Topshop Showspace with this troupe of lock-loving, scissor-wielding staff. Although the collection was all about renaissance artist and Spain’s El Greco there was no carefree flowing locks here but a pulled back and stark pony tail that was more athletics than school girl preen. These weren’t your average pony tails but slicked back, gel-heavy and tautly tied to the back of head. The left over hair was mussed up in mouse as if the models had just spent an hour on the track.

Pearly Skin

Meshing seamlessly with the slick hair, Art Partner’s Lucia Pica went for a translucent and fresh-faced base. “It’s quite sporty and sleek,” said Pica, “but with an otherwordly and futuristic twist. We went for a pearly base with a shine mixing for a balmy finish.” Along with the shining skin were the eyes elongated with tracked black liner and coated in a thick gloss for a real Alien-effect.

Model Talk

Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn were back again and were feeling rested, refreshed and enthused after their Harlem Shake video for Topshop had just gone viral! Other tit-bits were the endless supply of haribos that kept the models on a substantial sugar high before taking to the catwalk and the shoes – black patent brogues from Churches by Nicholas Kirkwood – that had many a model fawning over.

On The Catwalk

Front row…The always chic Yasmin le Bon, Olivia Palermo and Tallulah Harlech looking amazing in head-to-toe Peter Pilotto SS13.

The collection in 5 words… Cape, cut-outs, cocktail, spacey, scintillating.

The girls on the catwalk… BFF’s and fashion week fixtures Cara and Jourdan.

Playlist… Bumping, grinding, get-down-in-your-chair dub step.

What we loved…  The subtle Spanish matador feel in many of the cropped boleros and that über cool Zoro cape.

Hero piece… An origami fold cocktail dress encrusted with sequins and with a notched neckline.

Inspired by…17th century Spanish religious painter El Greco, re-envisaged in a futuristic light

End notes… The Peter Pilotto boys are breaking out of the prints that propelled their brand to recognition, and are going for bolder textures and richer fabrications to keep their audience rapt.
