Turn back the clocks to 2006. Twitter has just arrived on our desktops, Tavi Gevinson is ten years old and “blog” is a word that confuses the majority of the public. Yvan Rodic – or Facehunter as he is more fondly known – however, is eagerly snapping away street style looks in Paris, uploading them to his blog and beginning to get a bit of a reputation for his eye for style.
Today Yvan Rodic is one of the biggest street style photographers out there. Alongside Phil Oh and Tommy Ton he’s brought a whole new community of street snappers to the attention of the photography world – making them sit up and pay attention to this new form. Whether he’s snapping designer-clad editors outside the shows at Milan Fashion Week or spotting a striking looking teenager on the streets on Tokyo, Yvan is always working and has been keeping his website full of stylish folk for over 5 years.
This month sees the release of A Year in the Life of Face Hunter, a tome from Thames & Hudson that follows Yvan through the world of fashion in 365 days. Whether it’s the established capitals of style like New York or the emerging cities of fashion like Batumi in the Black Sea or the bustling city of Mumbai, Yvan has his camera to hand and documents the the trends he spots. It’s not just the images that make this book a real gem but his personal travel diary that is filled with intimate moments and personal accounts of parties that we bet you wished you were at! For a whole load of style inspiration and even some ideas for your next holidays, this is the book to pick up.
Want to meet Yvan yourself? Rodic will be signing books at Thursday 7 March between 5-7pm at the Queen’s Salon (Accessible via Restaurant), The May Fair Hotel, W1J 8LT.
