NOT SO HAPPILY EVER AFTER…

Ariel by Dina Goldstein

Here at Topshop, we’re huge Disney fans and have always envied the life of a princess! What we’ve never thought about however is what the lives of these fantastical characters would actually be like if they were real and living in the 21st century.

Cinderella by Dina Goldstein

If you haven’t come across “Fallen Princesses”, the thought-provoking highly lauded photography series by Dina Goldstein, we know you’ll find these shots absolutely captivating! Starry-eyed romanticism is nowhere to be found with each of these images having a very different, far more realistic tale to tell.

If you’re anything like us, you’ll end up looking at them over and over again. Challenging our fantasy-fueled memories of these characters, we found ourselves thinking about the original stories and then re-imagining how these princesses may have found themselves in these very real-life situations. Arial imprisoned in an aquarium, Cinderella alone in a bar with her prince nowhere to be seen, the Princess and the Pea homeless on a rubbish dump and Snow White struggling with her kids while her lazy prince sits back with his feet up.

We love how this series provokes you to think about what would have happened if everything hadn’t turned out happily ever after for our favourite childhood heroines! Let us know what you make of them…
