BACKSTAGE AT FASHION EAST SS14

The Topshop Showspace is never busier than when it’s time for Fashion East. With three complete shows going on at the same time – think hair stylists, make-up artists, assistant AND the troupe of models – we’re always elbow to elbow. But with designers Ashley Williams, Claire Barrow and Ryan Lo back for a second season we knew we need not worry about getting the job done. Here’s some of our favourite highlights from backstage.

SYLVANIAN ANIMALS AT RYAN LO

Ryan Lo is always one to bring a little fantasy to the Topshop Showspace. Even when it comes to make-up Ryan always ensures his girls are fun and pushing the boundaries. Last season was all about the glitter and  multi-coloured hair but this time around it was about all things animal. Ryan’s obsession centred around Sylvanian Families this season and make-up artist Mathais Van Hoff at Julian Watson took this very literally with rabbit noses and whiskers painted on the models faces to match their swinging tails.  Those girls without eye patches and dog-like snouts, kept their make-up sleek with black liquid eye liner and a strong red lip but no one was getting off without a hint of animal and most models donned a pair of fluffy rabbit or dog ears.

HIGH SHINE AND AMERICANA AT CLAIRE BARROW

Stockton-on-trent designer Claire Barrow kept to her quintessential dark palette and off-kilter style this season with a look that focussed on appliqued denim, drawn-over fabrics and a touch of ’60s style. Make-up artist Lucy Bridge from Jed Root brought an element of pop to red lips highlighted with painted on white streaks like the shine of a car. Continuations on the Americana theme included the Beatles-esque round sunglasses and on alternate eyes sporting blue and red mascara respectively.

TALL AND TAN AND YOUNG AND LOVELY AT ASHLEY WILLIAMS

There’s no happier looking bunch of models than the girls at Ashley Williams. These were beach babes as their best, healthy, smiley and working a collection that just oh so fresh! The girls were given a bronzed base courtesy of Sally Branka at Julian Watson Agency, who also enhanced their their natural blushes with a touch of peach and gave them a vivid neon pout. Their talons got an equally fun facelife with aztec patterns and popping prints from nail art heroes WAH! Nails. There’s no question who we want to be next summer, the Ashley Williams girl!
