It’s time for a heat rave! Head of Design Emma Farrow and Topshop Creative Director Kate Phelan looked to the heady and humid days on the beaches and clubs in Ibiza for a collection that was all hot-hot-hot. Thanks to a British summer that broke all temperature records, the Unique design team had a lot of experience enjoying the surprisingly humid weather. Inspiration came from everywhere said Emma, “We started looking at holiday photos and beautiful interior images from North Africa and Morocco. The collection has evolved since its first inception, “It always amazes me though how much things change from our initial feelings” The team were hard at work until showtime, “We always question and review what we are doing right up until the night before the show”, says Emma.
Front row… Well most heads turned at the Showspace when legendary Kate Moss turned up and took a seat next to our very own Phillip Green. IT-girls and Topshop regulars Daisy Lowe, Pixie Geldof and Harley Viera Newton cosied up together and actress Hayley Atwell worked head-to-toe Topshop with panache. Les Miserables star Samantha Barks also snuggled up on the seating looking as radiant as ever. Taking the lime light however was the almighty Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of American Vogue. But the VIPs didn’t end there with musical favourites, Charli XCX and the fabulous indie threesome HAIM enjoying the sunny outlook on the catwalk. Oh, did we mention Kate Moss was there?!
The girls on the catwalk… the new British supers seducing the fashion industry a.k.a. Jourdan Dunn and the face-pulling extraordinaire Cara Delevingne took pride of place. Alongside the starlets was Topshop favourite Rosie Tapner, new faces Sam Rollinson and Drake Burnette brought a new confident flare to the looks.
Playlist… a mash-up of booming house tracks, dancetastic-electro beats and dreamy listen-by-the-beach tunes. (Don’t forget you can get all the tracks on our website.)
What we loved… the swathes of light cotton fabrics that were effortlessly tossed around models necks, for instant cool. We couldn’t help but fall for the tile, star and striped prints that nodded to their craft roots but were thoroughly modern.
Hero piece… a light sun dress of course! They came in midnight blue and green geometric patterns with barely there straps and easy to wear all white dresses with cut-out star prints.
Inspired by… deserted beaches and long summer nights as well as holiday photos and beautiful interior images from North Africa and Morocco.
End notes… this collection was all about being young in the sun. Along with the easy-breezy shapes and softer farbics, the colours really stood out. We couldn’t wait to get our hands on the dazzling sea blue, and burning sun orange, marigold and dandelion tones. We’re already yearning for the return of summer months.
