POPPING-UP: FESTIVE FOOD & DRINK

A traditional Christmas may conjure up images of crackling fires in a rural cottage, but if you’re spending it in the city then these winter pop-ups are offering the next best thing. We scoured our favourite cities on both sides of the Atlantic to find the most festive food and drink in town.

5. MANCHESTER – HIBERNATE BAR

Created by the same people behind Manchester’s summer hangout InBloom, Hibernate offers the perfect winter alternative. Curl up under a sheepskin rug and enjoy hearty food and hot cocktails in front of the fire.

4. LA – GOOSE TACO POP-UP

This holiday season Culver City’s Bar & Garden is hosting a pop-up offering roast goose recipes. Renowned chef Paul Osher will put his own spin on the traditional Christmas dish with bites like goose tacos and goose-schmaltz refried beans. There’ll also be veggie options like butternut squash quesadillas, as well as complimentary sparkling wine from the store.

3. LONDON – BAR BBQ ON ICE

Found nestled behind Broadgate ice rink, Bar BBQ on Ice is one of London’s hottest rink-side restaurants. Work up an appetite on the ice before enjoying Memphis-inspired ribs ‘n’ burgers straight from the BBQ. Or if you’re feeling lazy, simply grab a cocktail and watch the skaters from the safety of the restaurant’s heated terrace.

2. LEEDS – TONGUE ‘N’ CHEEK @ JAKE’S BAR

After wowing London with a special menu for Cocktail Week, award-winning chef Greg Lewis has bought his pub grub home to Leeds with a pop-up restaurant at Jake’s Bar. Choose from homely favourites like shepherd’s pie and creamy Eggnogg for the ultimate in cold weather comfort food.

1. NEW YORK – HUDSON LODGE

This winter pop up at Manhattan’s Hudson Hotel will make you feel like you’ve entered a ski lodge without leaving the city. Head here to experience nightly snowfalls (thanks to their inbuilt snow machine), a cosy interior complete with taxidermy, and hot treats like hot chocolate made with cinnamon and pear brandy.
