From an awe-inspiring exhibition to the latest teenage singing sensation and an ex-model about to hit the big screen, we give you the skinny on the gotta-knows for 2014:
THE MODEL: MALAIKA FIRTH
Deemed ‘the next Naomi Campbell,’ by the style set, 19-year-old Malaika Firth is everyone’s new girl crush. The Kenyan-born, UK-raised talent signed to Premier a couple of years back, but hit the headlines recently when she became the first black model to front a Prada campaign since the ‘90s! Get ready to count her many appearances on the AW14 catwalks.
THE EXHIBITION: THE FASHION WORLD OF JEAN PAUL GAULTIER
This April an exhibition dedicated to French couture guru Jean Paul Gaultier will be coming to London’s Barbican. Fresh from its Brooklyn outpost, the show features 140 of Gaultier’s intricate designs, including the iconic corsets worn by Madonna and Kylie Minogue, alongside footage from catwalk shows, concerts and music videos.
THE SINGER: ELLA EYRE
You may recognise Ella Eyre as the feisty vocalist on Rudimental’s number one hit ‘Waiting All Night’. Now ready to make a mark with her own material, the 19-year-old is already topping all the critics’ ones-to-watch lists. Inspired by Motown and the likes of Gnarls Barkley, we reckon she’ll be the soulful sound of 2014.
THE FILM: FIFTY SHADES OF GREY
After the stratospheric success of the raunchy book trilogy, there’ll be no escaping the February film release. And even if you weren’t a fan of the fiction, it’s worth going along to see Irish actor (and more importantly, Calvin Klein underwear model) Jamie Dornan play the part of Christian Grey. Total. Hottie.
THE COLLABORATION: KATE MOSS FOR TOPSHOP
If you haven’t heard already (perhaps you’ve been living under a rock in 2013?) the fashion icon is returning to Topshop with a new collection that’s due to launch in April 2014! If you fell in love with the floral tea dresses or denim cut-offs from Kate Moss’s seasons past, we have no doubt you’ll fall for what’s coming next.
Happy New Year everyone! x
