A WINNING WEEKEND AT LFW

Our Topshop Unique show is talked about by some of the hottest journos in the fashion biz, but it’s your opinion that really counts. Each season we ask budding fashion critics to review our LFW spectacular via Twitter. For SS14, Georgina O’Callaghan’s 140 character review summed up the new collection perfectly, tweeting: “I loved the warm colours and Moroccan vibe.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Her winning words earnt her two tickets to our AW14 show at the Tate Modern, plus a night in a swanky London hotel with £250 to spend at our flagship store. Lucky or what?! Here’s how she got on…

In the New Year, I decided that one of my goals for 2014 was to go to London Fashion Week, but never did I dream I would be attending the Topshop Unique AW14 show as a guest just two months later! I was beyond surprised to hear that I had won the SS14 tweet off and the prize was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

THE SHOW

As excited as I was for the show, I was incredibly nervous to be in the same room as Kate Moss and Anna Wintour! We arrived early to be greeted by the Topshop team an the atmosphere was already buzzing with anticipation. Security rushed through the likes of Kendall Jenner and as we entered the Tate Modern space we were greeted by champagne, canapés and healthy fruit juices.

As we seated ourselves we began to recognise fashion faces and celebs including actress Ashley Madakwe, model Poppy Delevingne and the main man himself, Sir Phillip Green. The show began with a burst of music as models like Malaika Firth and superstar Jourdan Dunn took to the catwalk. The colour palette featured blues, berries, browns and mustards and the materials were heavy and luxe. Whilst the SS14 collection had a Moroccan vibe, this time saw a ’70s throwback with a modern twist. The show closed with the models marching down the catwalk to Beyonce’s anthem ‘Run The World (Girls)’ and huge applause from the crowd. A definite success!

THE HOTEL

We took ourselves down to Knightsbridge for a coffee and a spot of window shopping in Harrods. After lusting over all the luxury fashion it was time to check into our hotel in Mayfair, No 5 Cavendish Square. Right around the corner from the Oxford Street Topshop store, it was the perfect location and the hotel was really elegant with a brilliant view of the square. We decided to go for our evening meal at a cute little seafood restaurant just off Oxford Street called the Cape Town Fish Market, where the mood was relaxed and the cocktails flowed!

THE SHOPPING

Monday began with a continental breakfast in the hotel restaurant, where I spent a few hours writing up my notes from the show. We had a lazy morning before checkout at 12pm, to prepare ourselves for a full day shopping at the Topshop flagship store. I wasn’t sure that we could fill five and a half hours before our train home but we certainly did! With the £250 spending money I got myself some boots, a beautiful jumpsuit and a vintage looking skirt, whilst my boyfriend bagged some shoes and a t-shirt at Topman.

As I sat in first class on the trip home I was exhausted, yet on cloud nine after such an amazing trip. The experience meant the world to me and confirmed how much I love the fashion industry. It really was a once in a lifetime prize and I am forever grateful to the Topshop team!
