BACKSTAGE AT SIMONE ROCHA AW14

You know you’ve got a good thing going on when Anna Wintour takes time out of her schedule to see your collection. So when the legendary Vogue Editor-in-Chief swept into our showspace for Simone Rocha’s AW14 show, our prediction for this NEWGEN designer’s superstar future was confirmed. We couldn’t be happier for Simone’s success and each season her collections just get better and better. You can read all about the awe-inspiring clothes right here, but first let’s talk beauty.

The hair at Simone Rocha was beautifully braided. This season we’ve seen a lot of simple, straight locks on the catwalk and it was a refreshing change to see something a little different. Simone asked Babyliss stylist James Pecis to make the hair a rebellion from last season’s bun-cum-ponytail, with inspiration being “the wild Irish tomboy.” First he blow-dried the hair upside down to create lots of volume and texture, then plaited it into three mismatched braids, snaking round the back of the head. “We wanted to make a toughness with messy corn rows,” he explained. “My team had to break all the hairdressing rules to make sure nothing looked too perfect.”

The make-up by contrast was less tough tomboy and more ethereal princess. Make-up artist Sam Bryant (whose CV includes covers for fashion bibles like Vogue and Numero), gave Simone’s girls beautifully natural skin with BB cream and curled lashes, before adding a striking splash of gold foil to the models’ foreheads. “We wanted to pick out the gold tones in the collection,” she told us. “The gold foil was less a make-up look and more a conceptual statement.” Maybe not a look we’ll be wearing into the office then, but stunning all the same!
