We’re a bit obsessed with prom over at Topshop HQ. Because let’s face it – what could be more fun than partying with all your best friends (and fingers crossed a hot guy) to celebrate the fact you never, ever have to go back to school?! And of course half the fun comes from planning the outfit. To help you in your quest for prom perfection, we got Miss Vogue on board, whose lovely Retail Editor Ginnie Chadwyck-Healey came along to our Manchester store (plus her baby bump) to give a talk on all things prom style. For those of you who didn’t make it, we’ve rounded up Ginnie’s pearls of wisdom in five hot tips.
1. Choose an outfit you’d wear again
Ginnie quite rightly pointed out the error in buying a big ball gown you’ll never wear again. Instead why not opt for a statement skirt and crop top, both of which you can mix and match with more casual pieces in your wardrobe. Clever!
2. Be daring with your details
A great prom look is all about those extra little touches that make an outfit you. We loved Ginnie’s idea of wearing your heels with a cute pair of socks, which by the way is totally on trend for SS14.
3. Give extra thought to your make-up
For added wow-factor, Ginnie recommends planning your make-up in advance. Try recreating your favourite beauty look from the catwalks or check out the Topshop Beauty School for quick-and-easy tutorials. Remember, practice makes perfect!
4. Pump it up!
Ginne’s unexpected prom must-have? A pair of pumps! Pack some flats to go with your outfit and you’ll be dancing ’til dawn.
5. Think outside the box
Allergic to dressing up? Ginnie knows prom isn’t only limited to girlie dresses, giving all the tomboys out there lots of inspiration from cool jumpsuits to on-trend culottes and sharply tailored jackets.
