STAR SPANGLED STYLE FOR 4TH JULY

Independence Day – no not the movie – is a big deal. If you think about it, it’s a nationwide birthday party for the U-S-of-A. But instead of candles we’ve got fireworks and we’re swapping cake for red cups. Here at Topshop HQ we love a chance to wave a sparkler so here’s our round up of the best of the red, white and blue revelry.

Side Note: Fancy spending your weekend enjoying sun, sea and sandy cocktails? We recommend Playland Motel – the urban oasis, which calls Queens, NY, home. Starting this Sunday we’re kicking off the season with our Summer Sessions – a wild hedonistic hoedown featuring top flight DJS with Neon Indian kicking it off this weekend.

The Sites: New Yorkers can sum up their 4th July in one word: rooftop. For the dwellers of this skyscraper-heavy city it’s all about finding the best view as every year Macy’s puts on a spectacular firework display. Some hobnob at fancy parties on the Hudson, but we recommend finding a friendly face with a flat roof you can party the day away on, or heading out of town to the Hamptons for indie-hangout Ruschmeyers legendary knees up.
The Style: If you want to hang with the bearded and tattooed residents of Brooklyn’s Bedford Avenue play it cool, opt for Breton stripes or an embellished star top.

Chicago

The Sites: As the city that gave us Pitchfork and Lollapalooza festival  it’s no wonder this city moves to a beat on Independence Day. Expect fireworks set off to star spangled sounds, but, if you want something that marches to a different beat, try Chicago’s electro weekender, Wavefront festival.
The Style: Gingham co-ords will look Yankee Doodle Dandy.

The Sites: LA, to say the least is vast, just like the city’s 4th July options. Pick from a sedate family friendly celebration at the Hollywood Bowl, featuring the winning combo of a philharmonic orchestra synchronised to fireworks, cult alt option A Club Called Rhonda’s self described ‘pansexual party’, or Venice Beach’s annual crowning of Mr & Mrs Muscle Beach.
The Style: Tuck a white shirt into flag print cut-offs for a sure fire way to earn your style (stars and) stripes.

Vegas, Baby!

The Sites: This city has never needed an excuse to party that being said 4th July is like no other night in Sin City. Yes there are fireworks (head to Cesar’s Palace for those) but there’s also what Vegas does best: dance parties. Take endless selfies as you hang with Afrojack at Wet Republic, Macklemore at Wynn Social or Tiesto at Hakkasan. Fancy something less mainstream, try Beauty Bar’s soul celebration.
The Style: Make bodycon look chic with a scarlet figure-hugger and a white biker jacket.
