This season at LFW our Unique AW15 show will take place at iconic art gallery Tate Britain. We’ll be in residence at its stunning Duveen galleries, (all epic high ceilings, marble floors and Corinthian pillars) to bring you one of the longest catwalks in the history of Fashion Week. So in the spirit of fashion merging with art, we’ve rounded up the most stylish exhibitions in London.
NICK WAPLINGTON/ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: WORKING PROCESS @ Tate Britain, 10 March – 17 May 2015
Coinciding with the V&A’s hotly-anticipated McQueen retrospective (more on that later), this Tate Britain exhibition gives you a new insight into the late designer – thanks to a series of images by Nick Waplington. The photographer was given access to McQueen’s studio as he prepared his final AW collection, The Horn of Plenty (remember the one with the mega lips?) – so expect an insider look into McQueen’s working process, from sketching to production to the final catwalk show in Paris.
GUY BOURDIN IMAGE MAKER @ Somerset House, 27 November 2014 – 15 March
This exhibition by photography-great Guy Bourdin can’t be missed. Showing at Fashion Week’s HQ Somerset House ’til mid March, it’s the UK’s largest ever exhibition of his work – featuring over 100 works and previously unseen pics from his private collection, spanning over 30 years.
GARETH PUGH RETROSPECTIVE @ Galeria Melissa, 11th February – May
King of avant-garde fashion, Gareth Pugh, returns to the catwalk at London Fashion Week this season, with his first runway show in seven years! To celebrate his comeback (plus the label’s tenth anniversary), there’ll be a retrospective of his work held at Galeria Melissa in Covent Garden from 11th February to May.
INTERNATIONAL FASHION SHOWCASE @ Brewer Street Car Park, 20th – 24th February
For LFW, the British Fashion Council will present 130 emerging designers from 30 countries, plus a programme of fashion talks from the pros. The exhibition is not only open to the public – but also totally free – so head down to Brewer Street Car Park to take a look from 20th – 24th February.
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: SAVAGE BEAUTY @ V&A, 14th March – 2nd August
It’s finally coming to London! Opened in New York in 2011 to huge success and millions of visitors, the retrospective of one of fashion’s greatest designers is rehoused at the V&A. Visit to see the Kate Moss hologram, plus some of McQueen’s most iconic designs close-up – including new additions like the red dress from his AW08 collection and a white feathered stunner from AW09. Two hundred tickets are available each day on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Tune in to watch Topshop Unique live from Tate Britain on Sunday 22nd Feb, from 2.30pm GMT.
