The first of this season’s Fashion Weeks is well and truly underway. We’ve already counted up the Kendall sightings, catwalk references and copious amounts of beauty products used (yes, we’re looking at you, Wang) and now we’re turning our attention to the seriously strong street style game that’s currently hitting the New York sidewalks. See the trends we’re preparing to trial below.
1. DO THE DOUBLE
You might have noticed your Instagram feed looking a little frostbitten the past few days – that’ll be down to the crazy chilly -15C temperature covering the island of Manhattan. The front row pros have managed to combat the cold oh-so-stylishly by wearing not one, but two coats. Try a classic biker under an oversized duster jacket, or a faux fur gilet paired with a utility style shacket.
2. ONE COLOUR WONDER
This season the streets are taking tonal dressing next level – so if you’ve got a favourite colour, now’s the time to work it. Go for colour-pop co-ordinating brights or top-to-toe nudes, making everything (coat, clothes and accessories) match.
3. WINTER SUN SHADES
The NYFW crowd have probably been wearing their sunnies to avoid snow blindness, but we’re hoping we can put ours to proper use with a bit of winter sun. Pick a stand out pair (think thick frames and strong styles) and team with equally outlandish outerwear for a statement look.
It’s a hard life lugging all your stuff from show to show, so when we started spotting the fashion crowd doubling up on their handbags, we knew it was a must. Chuck a cute cross-body style over your outfit for your essentials and keep a muted, slouchy style on standby for extras. Perfect! (And practical).
5. OH SO AWKWARD (TROUSERS)
Expecting floods? That not-quite-cropped, kick flare style is big news right now. Part Alexa Chung and part Jane Birkin, they look good in denim, jersey or prints and paired with heeled ankle boots. Still unsure? Try turning up your favourite jeans to find your ideal length first.
