SAY HELLO TO HONEYBLOOD

They’re named after a Halloween costume gone wrong, have been compared to punk-girl legends like Hole and Bikini Kill and write songs you wish you’d written about your ex. We caught up with rock duo Honeyblood‘s front woman Stina Tweeddale ahead of their NME Awards Tour headline show in London tonight to find out a little more about the ladies bringing Riot Grrrl back.

STINA ON…

THEIR INSPIRATION
It’s mostly my friends. A lot of my songs are their opinions or me trying to give their opinions a voice. Bands like Bikini Kill and any of the Riot Grrrl stuff – that’s what I grew up listening to and what made me want to play music. They gave me a strong sense of what it means to be a woman playing music.

LIFE ON THE ROAD
‘One of the real perks of being in a band is getting to go to different places. Last tour it was amazing because we started getting people crowd surfing, I was so happy! We’re too chicken, though. If you don’t choose your moment well it could end very badly.’

THEIR STYLE

‘When we’re on tour it’s mostly about making sure people can’t see up your skirt! We went to a proper thrift store in Boston, it was so amazing, they’re like superstores, you get a trolley and everything is 50 cents! I love finding something unique to come home with. If I feel guilty about buying it I’m just like well I’m never going to be in this place again, this is it.

BEING A DUO
‘Sometimes when I’m writing or recording and I wish there was an extra person to sing a harmony or play something, but we make enough noise to get away with being just two of us! The offer is there if anyone wants to try out though!’

Honeyblood’s debut album is out now.
