THREE TRENDS TO TRY FROM THE 2015 OSCARS

Last night, while half the celebrity world was immersed in the London Fashion Week whirlwind, the other half were taking shelter from the torrential rain stateside for the 87th Academy Awards. There were dresses and diamonds galore (obvs), a British win (congrats Eddie Redmayne!) and a whole lot of red carpet couple action (looking at you Jennifer and Justin). But if you’re not heading to a fancy awards ceremony anytime soon, here’s how you can try out this year’s red carpet trends at home.

1. PEARLY QUEEN

Lupita Nyongo, best actress winner Julianne Moore and Felicity Jones all went for outfits dripping top-to-toe in pearls. Mega beautiful, yes, but a little on the heavy side. If you’re after something a little more subtle, limit your pearl use to accessories only: Ear cuffs, chokers and body chains are fresh options, or try a top with pearl embellishment on the hem or collar.

2. NEXT LEVEL NECKLINES

There were plunging Vs and cold shoulders all across the red carpet, Emma Stone went for a slash neck beaded number, but it was Sienna Miller’s slick square neckline we were really crushing on. Style it ’90s this season and layer ribbed crop tops and dresses over a tee or polo neck.

3. LADY IN RED

A brave choice considering the colour of the carpet, but Fifty Shades’ Dakota Johnson, Rosamund Pike and Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo all went for traffic-stopping scarlet. Try a simple slip dress under a leather jacket or, if all over colour isn’t your thing, go for a super bright lip shade instead.
