WHAT WE LEARNT FROM MILAN FASHION WEEK

The final leg of fashion month is underway. But before we say Bonjour to the bright lights of Paris, here’s what we learnt from Milan this season…

1. NEXT SEASON IS ALL ABOUT THE SUIT
But we’re not talking straight up modern, mannish tailoring. The suits of AW15 are retro inspired and strictly for the girls. From Annie Hall-esque slouchy styles in a Wes Anderson inspired colour palette at Gucci, to wide-lapelled, double-breasted pastel perfection at Prada. Bellissimo!

2. IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR
The mini-me’s of the fashion world weren’t just sitting front row this season – they hit the catwalk for Dolce & Gabbana too. The Viva La Mamma collection was dedicated to celebrating (you guessed it) all things motherhood. There were adorable matching outfits, a mum-to-be and Spice Girls ‘Mama’ as the soundtrack. Too. Cute.

3. LONG LIVE THE CLASSICS
The major Milan fashion houses are big fans of sticking to their roots. Pucci and Missoni pulled our their statement prints, Armani kept it sleek and pared back, and Cavalli’s animal print covered everything from cuffs and collars to full length coats. Well, if it ain’t broke…

4. THE STREET STYLE IS SUPER FANCY
During fashion week the Milan streets were a sea of super slick hats, heels and mini bags. Flares paired with pointed courts – never trainers! – tailoring was very serious and everything colour-matched with polished perfection.
