You may know her from that Blurred Lines video but Emily Ratajkowski is so much more than a pretty face. (Well, an absolutely gorgeous face.) After her point perfect debut as the divisive Andie in Gone Girl, and soon in her upcoming roles in Entourage and We Are Your Friends, we’ve no doubt she’ll be hitting those best newcomer lists in no time. For Monday night’s Met Gala who better than Emily to make her Costume Institute debut in bespoke Topshop with pals Hailey Baldwin and Bella Hadid for company. We chatted to Emily about the big night’s big prep and her favourite moments of Met Balls past.
Talk us through your journey to the Met…
It started months ago when Topshop was sweet enough to invite me to the Met. We had my first fitting in London, where we discussed the theme and what we had imagined for the dress. And then, boom! It’s the weekend of and I’m finally able to try it on.
What did you think the Met Ball was going to be like?
I imagined it would be pretty hectic! Hair and make-up started in the early afternoon, then cocktails with the Topshop team and then the big moment, the red carpet! The dinner itself is really beaautiful and mellow but the after parties are so fun!
Tell us about the dress you wore.
It was cream coloured and embroidered with blue, yellow, bronze and silver flowers. It fits perfectly with the theme and is very unique.
What do you think of when you think of the Met Ball?
I can remember looking at iconic pictures of Kate Moss, Gisele and SJP attending the Met Ball as a little girl. It’s always seemed like the most glamorous party in the world, which I think it truly may be. I’m so excited to be included.
What’s your favourite past Met Ball dress?
Kate Moss in that amazing silver dress by Marc Jacobs . Or SJP in Oscar de la Renta.
