ASK CHRISTOPHER KANE YOUR QUESTIONS
June 12, 2009
If you haven't heard that Scottish designer Christopher Kane is producing his biggest collection for Topshop yet, then where have you been? After press day last week, the excitement's been building!
With 39 pieces (including shoes and bags), set to land instore this September, we've already started making our imaginary shopping lists! And they're long...
"This is more than a capsule collection. It's proper: with bags, shoes, knitwear and dresses. It's nothing like any other work I've done in the past. Everything is a bit "wow". But If I tell you any more, I'll be giving the theme away," Christopher told Grazia's Melanie Rickey.
And if there's anything you want to ask Christopher, he'll be answering your questions here. Just post them up before Wednesday 17th June and look out for his answers in our Christopher Kane fanzine!
Any chance of something along the lines of those great monkey dresses you did? :D

I'd like to say that I adore Christopher's A/W 09 collection and hope that the Topshop collection brings a part of this look to the high street ( Get me one of those nude dresses!) Where do you get your inspiration from Christopher? Do you read blogs? xx

Fashion is a fickle world, very fickle. What do you suggest for someone trying to get into the fashion industry. For me, my dream is journalism. What is the best way to make contacts and get my foot on the ladder?
P.S. I love your work Christopher Kane, you are amazing. Keep it up. I wish I could afford everything you make, especially the gorilla print dress, it would be a dream come true! Well, maybe some day...
All the luck in the future, not that you need it. xxx

The inspiration for your work has varied greatly over the past years. I would be very interested to know a bit about the process of choosing and developing the inspiration, and eventually translating it into the final collection.
Good luck for the future!

Soo excited about the Topshop collection, i would bet money on Christopher Kane becoming one of the great designers of our generation.. only then I'd have less money to spend on his clothes!!
I would be really interested in hearing from Christopher what his advice is on getting yourself out there and known in the industry. The way he has rose to greatness so quickly but so deservedly is an inspiration to all hopeful designers like myself.

I've just seen pictures of your pre-collection. What inspired you to choose to use images of nuclear bombs? and also were you worried it might cause a negative response to your brand as an image of a nuclear bomb is assosiated with death/war?

Even though everything is a bit 'wow' in your new collection, what is the one piece that every girl should own from the new range and why?
Cheers,

Can a nearly 50 year old original punk wear your new line without looking like she's trying to be some kind of trendy blogger? Ha! Answer doesn't matter my style is all my own, and if I love it I'll wear it! Can't wait to see the new collaboration! Do definitely want some clues though dear Christopher!
Cheers!

Hi,
Just wanted to say how much I love your designs! I was wondering, what's the best part of working in the fashion industry? What other designers do you admire? Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you ever run out of ideas? What advice would you give someone who wants to be a successful fashion designer? What date is your Topshop collection released on? I can't wait for it! Thanks alot!

How would you describe your own personal style? And what do you think are a wardrobe's must-haves?

Hello.
May I start by saying how much i loved your S/S09, it was to die for, seriously!
Anyway, I just wanted to know who inspired you to get into fashion and if you have a 'favourite' designer?
Also, do you have any advice in getting into designing clothes. Recently i've been really inspired by the way clothes are put together and think that i would like to maybe pursue something like that.
Do you have an all time favourite piece in any of your collections?
Thank you for your time. :D
(p.s, hope this doesn't sound all kiss-ass?)
