CALDER JEWELLERY AT THE IMMA

June 02, 2009

Calder-jewelery

One of the Style Advisors over in our Dublin store let us know about this great exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

The first exhibition dedicated to the remarkable jewellery created by American artist, Alexander Calder, it explores his innovative and influential designs (and with brooches made out of names, some say, he was the forerunner of the Carrie necklace in Sex & the City).

With 100 of his pieces - including necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings and tiaras from the 1920s to the 1960s on display, this exhibition is the first in which Calder's jewellery is explored in depth.

The photographs of prominent faces wearing his individual pieces - including Anjelica Huston, Georgia O’Keeffe and Peggy Guggenheim - demonstrate just how experimental Calder's work was for his time!

Open until June 21, if you’re in the area, make sure you pay a visit!
