WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!

We've come over all gleeful, like children with balloons, at the trailer for Where the Wilds Things Are. The return in film to our favourite childhood book ever has got us counting down the days until its October release. With the uncommonly good Spike Jonze at the helm, this journey into a little boy's imagination is set to be our cinematic event of the year and we're SO excited about seeing the Wild Things at play! It's the perfect excuse - as if we needed one - to indulge our inner child. We love the director, we love the book; we have got go and see the film. See you at the popcorn counter!

HOUSE OF CARDS

Illustrator Gerald Scarfe's Jack of Hearts

The housing charity, Shelter, are calling all budding artists and designers to complete the final card in a deck that’s been designed by some of the biggest names in British art including Damien Hirst, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

The housing charity has invited 52 of the country’s top artists to design a playing card for a unique exhibition as part of its award winning House of Cards campaign but has held back one card - the 8 of clubs! There are no restrictions or limitations to the way the card is designed - photography, sculptures, textiles, illustrations, street art or paintings are all welcome!

Entries should be uploaded to Shelter's microsite by Friday 21 August where you'll be able to vote on your favourite design. The top five will then be put to painter, animation director and film-maker Simon Henwood who is designing one of the cards and will choose the winner.

You'll be able to see the winning card at the Haunch of Venison gallery in London's Piccadilly, where the House of Cards exhibition which will run from Thursday 24 - Monday 28 September 2009.

Fashion designer Barbara Hulanicki, who recently designed a range for Topshop and created the Five of Diamonds card, says, "My advice to those thinking of having a go is to have fun with it and see what happens! Not only will you be taking part in an exciting new project, but your artwork will help raise awareness of the urgent housing crisis we are facing."
