BEAUTIFUL PHRASES

We came across the work of Alexis Anne Mackenzie via the inspiring site, It's Nice That, and were instantly drawn to the dreamlike nature of her collages. Inspired by early-mid 20th century surrealist movement as well as Pop Art, Alexis integrates text into a mix of flowers, random Victorian objects and delicate animals in the most beautiful way! And her choice of phrases - whether they make you feel happy, nostalgic or slightly sad - represent something that we can all relate to.

HAIR‘EM SCARE‘EM

Hair curtains, hair sculptures, unfathomable beards and tangles of plaited locks make their way into Hair 'em Scare 'em, the definitive - and possibly only - book of hair-related aesthetic design.  A wonderful mix of beautifully crafted styles, this book collates hairy images in a bid to celebrate its medium in all kinds of art.  We think it's going to make a wonderful gift for anybody with a love for their locks!

HORTI-COUTURE

Use1

Because we're incurable style junkies, we've been poring over the images from the couture shows which are taking place in Paris right now. And when we saw the latest collection from John Galliano at Dior, we swooned! Then we got inspired and went hunting for these beyond-cute flower rings from Freedom. They're massive and bejewelled and their candy colours are so perfect for SS10. We're going to be wearing ours with pretty fabrics and perfectly polished nails for an ultimate hit of new season style!

IF YOU COULD...

We were in the mood for bit of culture so decided to take a stroll down to the If You Could Collaborate exhibition and indulge our artistic side. This year, the organisation took the very best in design talent and gave them a year-long brief to create something 'a little unexpected'.

Through working with one another, the artists involved aim to explore different approaches to the creative process, ultimately coming up with multi-faceted visual pieces.

We immediately fell in love with the Rob Ryan and Michael Marriott chair, screen printed with the words, 'Let's not do anything from now on unless it's fun,' and were just plain baffled by the girl wearing a bale of hay - a trend for spring/summer perhaps?

We're putting ourselves on the waiting list for some Four Dimensional Glasses and are still totally awestruck by the detailing in HelloVon and Timothy Saccenti's beautiful illustration. Take a look at the website and tell us what you think. We can't wait for next year's show!

NEW RELEASES FOR 2010

We've been having a little think about last year and the songs that made it what it was. Whether we were chilling out in the park to a bit of Laura Marling, dancing like crazy to the sounds of Florence or getting all hot and bothered at Friendly Fires, our speakers were never silent! After much careful consideration we've compiled the albums we'll be buying in 2010.
