LET'S GET PHYSICAL

Image

Could we have found the best idea in the world? Feast your eyes on this, the absolute last word in keeping fit and looking awesome.

Disco Health Club uses dance combinations inspired by video-health-supremos Jane Fonda and Olivia Newton-John, encourages wild 80s dress-up, and employs a DJ to spin Wham and Cyndi Lauper into your aerobically toned ears.

Think leg warmers and metallic spandex, sweat-bands and above all, of having a great time while you exercise. We'd definitely recommend grabbing a ticket! They're selling out fast.

Post-health-boost you can sup drinks of your choice and watch as the class turns into a raving disco. The perfect opportunity to throw your new moves on the dance floor or watch other people attempting to do the same.

We're all for keeping healthy and having a good time, and we never turn down an opportunity to have a laugh at our own expense. Come join us next Wednesday - we’re totally hooked!

Take a peek of what you're in for here... and be prepared to be 'wowed' by the amazing instructor in her spandex leotard!

RAG DOLL COUTURE

Lanvin-2
As soon as we caught sight of Andrew Yang's seriously stylish rag dolls on Tavi Gevinson's blog for POP, we were absolutely smitten. So smitten that we couldn’t contain our excitement and ended up calling half the office over to take a look!

Made by freelance fashion designer and illustrator, Andrew Yang, for the Quebec based magazine, The Block, they make for the most amazing round-up of the spring/ summer trends. Make sure you pick up a copy of their latest issue - it's great!

These handmade beauties may be 27-inch-tall, but they certainly know how to pull off Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Rick Owens, and Ann Demeulemeester! With each of Andrew's rag dolls cut from a pattern, sewn into muslin, and meticulously stuffed and attached by hand, we’re not surprised they look so damn good! Their faces are also hand painted, and each of their outfits is created using luxurious fabrics, and couture sewing methods.

All-dolls

Before becoming dissatisfied with the fashion industry and returning to his childhood fascination with dolls, Andrew was an assistant designer. Growing up in Utah around his mother’s collection of high-end fashion dolls, making his own was always something he’d wanted to do.

So in the summer of 2008, Andrew created his first doll out of scraps of muslin he had lying around his New York flat. And by February of 2009, his 27 Kouklitas - the Greek word for doll - made their debut at a gallery in lower Manhattan. Made with such love and care - each of Andrew's dolls has a name and is given a story - we're not surprised they've caught the art world's imagination.

We’re quite seriously considering having a custom one made. Imagine a Koukilta wearing Topshop SS10!

TIM BURTON AT MoMA

Today is definitely one of those days when we want to live in New York. Not only do lucky Big Apple residents get iconic yellow taxis, unbelievable fashion and a Topshop all of their own, they're also playing host to a beyond-exciting exhibition of celebrated film director Tim Burton's work.

The exhibition itself is a mammoth affair, showcasing over seven hundred examples of drawings, paintings, photographs, moving image works,  concept art, storyboards, puppets, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic paraphernalia from some of his greatest pieces.

We've long been fans of Burton's gothic style and complex characters (who doesn't still cry at Edward Scissorhands?) and would so love to view some of the never-seen-before originals. So go take a peek at the Museum of Modern Art and let us know how it was. We'll be green with envy!

ICE, ICE, BABY

Not since the Vauxhall Skate way back in the summer of '09 have we been so excited about getting into the rink! We’re clamouring for tickets to Vauxhall Ice Skate on January 28th - a night of revelry and fashion atop frozen water.

Amongst the fairytale backdrop and bevy of too-cool-for-schoolers, they'll be a sprinkling of top DJs providing beats to skate to, as well as a whole host of brilliant UK designers, there to show their wares in brilliant new ways. That spells fun with a capital F to us!

Click here to register for tickets and get ready to feast your eyes on Paloma Faith, Mr Hudson and the fabulous Coco Sumner, among the artists playing. You don't even need your own skates because Vauxhall have a truckload to lend out! Tickets are going fast, so get in there fast. We'll see you there (probably on our bums - we've never been too hot on a pair of skates...)

OFF THE CATWALK

Pic-1

The girls from Unique have had had a super busy week! As well as working away on our new collection for Autumn/ Winter - set to make its way down the catwalk at London Fashion Week in Feb - they've been staying extra late to make these fluro hair bobbles as seen in our Spring/ Summer show.

The perfect way to finish off the season's fun-filled, surf-inspired looks, we reckon they're set to become spring's hottest hair ware! So we're sure you’ll be glad to know that they're set to land in store just in time for Fashion Week. We know you'll love them... we just can't promise they'll make you look like Dree!
