PRETTY TOUGH GIRLS AT CHRISTOPHER KANE

February 22, 2010

Each season Christopher Kane picks a motif and runs with it. Last year, it was flirty ginghams and for AW10, he chose to send his girls out sheathed in chic leather, embroidered with beautiful blooms and adorned with crystals.

From violet to yellow and blushing pink, each flower was hand-sewn to beautiful effect. But it wasn't all pretty pretty, among the floral bouquets lurked twisted weeds.

Also demonstrating Kane’s fascination with the badly behaved, sinister girl, intricate lace and dominatrix-esque pvc were worked into his sharply tailored silhouettes.

Dresses had patent shirt collars and cuffs, capped lace sleeves and cut-out backs, while chiffon shirts traded their front buttons for back buttons and were teamed with A-line skirts edged in lace, or pleated kilts.

As the models stalked the catwalk a dark soundtrack pulsed, perfectly complementing the designers' high waist leather shorts and the prettiest biker jackets we’ve ever seen!

Towards the end of his show, Kane switched things up with jewel encrusted leather dresses that had a quasi-religious feel. These pieces reminded us of good old trashy Vegas, yet somehow retained a gorgeously girly feel.

And this is exactly what everyone loves about Kane! He always courts the idea of bad taste, but hits exactly the right note. There wasn’t a girl in that room that who wouldn’t kill to slip into one of Kane’s latest creations.
