THE NAMES TO KEEP ON YOUR RADAR!

February 23, 2010

As proud supporters of New Gen - the scheme which nurtures new design talent, giving them the funds and space to show at London Fashion Week - we’re always super excited to see what the future of fashion is going to look like, and this year was no exception! Four unbelievably talented emerging designers took up their needles and thread and came up trumps with collections that we quite simply can’t wait to get our hands on!

HOLLY FULTON

Geometric, brightly coloured, printed, gorgeous, madness from Holly Fulton.  A fabulous selection of sixties-inspired shift dresses, slim-line trousers and theatrical embellishments, rolled up in a palette of sunshine yellow, burnt orange, electric blue and definite black.  Think intricate printing and art deco motifs. This was easy daywear punctuated with a bit of sparkle; the perfect transition from morning to night. Having just relocated to London from Scotland, we’re glad she’s here to stay.

CRAIG LAWRENCE

You can’t help but oogle at Craig Lawrence’s sensational knitwear. Cast in gold and spun from what we assume is magic, his creations have set fashion tongues wagging! Bodycon and full-length, laddered and see-through, and crowned with a plume of fabric voluminous in the extreme, Craig is set to go far.

LOUISE GREY

Enter the funfair world of Louise Grey and witness every rainbow colour clashing in myriad colours, patchworked together and littered with eccentric touches - a royal blue fur boot here, a crimped and flung-forward ponytail there.  She’s fast earning herself a reputation among the fashion pack as a new design hero and we’re absolutely loving her way with tones and shades.

SYKES

Chic and then some, Sykes has a look that’s so effortless it’s almost criminal.  Beautifully cut from the finest materials, cute shorts peep out from beneath perfectly tailored jackets, sheer dresses envelope bodies and slouchy cardigans give everything a decidedly thrown-together look.  It’s all about the detail and a pin-tuck, a ruche, a fold or a pleat gives each piece a one-off feel.  Perfect for any time we have to leave the house - we’ll take the lot!

New Gen is such a good cause! I love that they're showcasing new talent, fresh ideas are so invigorating.
Have you heard of the Backing Young Britain campagin? It's along the same lines as New Gen... the British Fashion Council endorsed it at the start of Ldn Fashion Week, and quite a few designers are following suit. You should check it out :)
