CAFE CULTURE

Screening1-v2

Last night we took ourselves off to a secret screening of art house thriller The Limits of Control at our new favourite hangout Tapped and Packed. Bare wooden floors and flickering candles set the mood while we sipped expertly-made cocktails and hobnobbed with the café’s owner and other attendees. We love that they served their drinks in miniature coffee cups and had a bit too much fun playing with their collection of antique spoons! Relaxed and chic and a perfect spot for people watching - this summer we’ll be putting café culture firmly back in vogue.

SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND

We’re getting ready for bank holiday at Topshop HQ and have been bopping all week long to Stricken City’s Animal Festival. It’s firmly planted on our summer soundtrack and we can’t get enough of the gorgeous vocal that’s so full of passion and soul.

Of course, once we saw the video we fell in love with the band all over again! Like a mini festival for four people, the lo-fi film sees the band decked out in face paints and feather head dresses, prancing about barefoot in the mud and silhouetted against a night time bonfire. It’s made us yearn for that post-barbeque feeling that summer’s so great for, so we’re crossing our fingers for the rain to hold off. We’ll definitely be channelling the Stricken City vibe this season, so if you come across lots of people with brightly painted faces you’ll know why!

WEEEEE!

Just when we thought Prada couldn’t get any cooler, we stumbled across this on 10 Magazine’s daily blog. Not only do they make incredible clothes, they now have officially the most fun way to leave a building ever! Designed by Carsten Höller and doubling up as a piece of art in its spare time, this designer slide is a spiral of pure fashion exhilaration - not to mention more heel-friendly than a flight of stairs. How badly do we want a go?

LITTLE DRAGON COVERS COACHELLA

As we couldn’t get there, we asked electro band, Little Dragon, to cover Coachella for us! See what singer, Swedish-Japanese Yukimi Nagano and her band got up to in the desert...

Spent the weekend in the desert at Coachella! My band rushed into the festival late on Friday night after driving on the wrong side of the road to get through traffic. Spent the next couple of days pool side, and roaming in-between stages to hear some good shows and collaborate with the Gorillaz on Sunday. It was wild! We also came across a nice bunch of characters and interesting outfits during our adventures.

I snapped a shot of garage rock brothers, King Khan & Joe Bradley from the Black Lips. Khan is wearing some kind of eastern looking tunic with a military cap while Joe compliments his militant style with a flight suit. I can't imagine what he was thinking wearing that sweaty outfit in the desert. Looked comfortable though.

Much later that night we went running around Palm Springs in search of some kind of food and ran into this super excited, possibly drunk guy that actually recognized us from our set earlier at Coachella. I stopped him to catch a flick of his Digital Underground inspired 'Humpty Dance* shirt. He was keeping warm with his leopard print cap that I wanted to keep for myself.

Here's a cute one of a happy girl wearing fun heart shaped glasses you might see at every single festival in the world, but charming nonetheless. She looks refreshing in all her light colours.

This is a hippie in his birthday suit hiding in the bushes. His beard is inspiring. If I could grow a beard i would wear it for a lifetime and decorate it would flowers like this beautiful man.

Checked out Devo which turned out to be one of my favourite sets at the festival. They were not actually wearing their signature hats but I managed to find a couple fans representing the pyramid style during the show. Next time I'll have to bring my own hats to pass out to the band.

Caught a shot of this girl backstage hanging around in her shorts and torn tights. She had no problem striking a pose for the camera. Loved her top! Nice floral polka dot mix going on.

Here's a drunk girl hanging outside one of the Coachella after parties at a hotel in Indio. Seems like she had a long day. She was having fun though in her coloured pencil shorts and straw hat that I'm sure was useful in the sunlight. She also had one of the most beautiful faces I have ever seen.

Ran into VV Brown on the way out who we just spent a month on the road with. She was looking fly as usual.

And that's that. I had fun taking these pictures. Thanks for making it this far. The desert is really a beautiful place

Lots of Love
Yukimi
