GLAMPING, NOT CAMPING!

August 05, 2010

Our assistant buyers went to Sussex last week for a spot of Navaho-themed fun! They had their own field of gorgeous handcrafted tipis decked out with sheepskins, navaho rugs and lots of cushions. On Thursday morning, after a big breakfast cooked on the open fire, they lolled around on multicoloured rugs in the sun and went on a mass Topshop cycle-ride through the neighbouring fields!

Day-2
The evenings' activities consisted of a BBQ under the stars and a North American Indian themed party where our lovely buyers dressed up and danced around the campfire.

Night

Talk about being jealous? We'll definitely be heading down to Sussex Tipis ourselves. Only 50 minutes from London, this is the perfect weekend away.

You do realize this is incredibly crass and offensive, right?

An excellent and educational read if you're interested in Native American culture.

Oooh its like Disney Pochahontas for grown ups. I write a blog that I would have done a glamping post for. Is it possible to use some of your photos please?

Thanks! :) xx

Wow. This looks so fun. It's a great idea for a girls weekend away.

Hi Lottie, yes that's fine. Glad you like glamping too!

I love the whole theme! ESP
what everyone is wearing!
n the shrug made of feathers is dope.
Will we b seeing that in topshop soon?? <3

Yeah, looks like a lot of fun and it is a great idea to make such an excursion. The dressed up girls with the feathers and wauwi indian styles are gorgous.

This is kind of insensitive... Not intentionally so, I don't doubt, but, er, you should probably think about things like that on what is essentially a PR site.

Thanks so much for letting me use the photos they are perfect!

I think you girls look absolutely fab!
Fashion is fun :)

This is incredibly insensitive and just flat out stupid. I cannot believe anyone thought this was a good PR move.

What a wonderful post. That feathered shrug is so lovely. I hope it's in your A/W range! x

You know... you guys could have really just gone on a "glamping" trip without it being supposedly Native American inspired. What did that add to your trip? Did you guys do "Native American things" or did you just wear feather headdresses?

I love it!

I'm going to have to agree with some of the comments above. I understand the group was trying to be cute and have fun, but dressing up as Native Americans is pretty ignorant and offensive. I would expect more from you guys.

I really want one of those feather capes, they are fab! x

My wife and I love a bit of Glamping - but I'm not sure she'd have been too pleased to have among a tribe of beautiful "native americans". I think I could have probably managed though... ;)

Well, i feel there is no harm dressing up like native Americans and they look awesome! The very idea of camping in a different style is amazing. Thank you guys for sharing the photographs. Simple love the feeling! and of course thanks for letting me comment here :)

What's next? Camping in blackface? Perhaps you could put on minstrel shows the next time out. Golly you could even dress up in cute little slave outfits and make shackles out of Swarovski crystals. I am being sarcastic of course, but you actually dressed up as Native Americans and then publicized your shameful behavior. Are you kidding? How on earth could you think this was a good idea, good pr, or anything other than ridiculously and openly racist?
