THE FULL REPORT: TOPSHOP UNIQUE

Get ready to go back to the elegant era of 1930s America with Topshop Unique. For AW11, our amazing in-house design team, journeyed back to the industrial age with sumptuous silks, refined silhouettes and detailing Cruella de Ville would have been proud of.

As the soundtrack opened on a 101 Dalmations Disney classic, the first model strode onto the catwalk and we started seeing spots!  A voluminous faux fur coat with its collar turned up, worn over hiked-up trousers and thick woollen socks had the front row scribbling away.

Faux-fur trimmed dresses and flowing, spotted silk that skimmed the knees and all but screamed elegance-with-a-twist bought a decadent image of Hollywood glamour to mind. Want to go to Miami in a in one of those enormous faux fur stoles? We do too!

A cute square-bibbed sailor suit got a new season update in doggy-printed denim and we noted that the wide-leg tailored crop is due to continue its reign over fashion well into next season. You heard it here first! Worn with sweetly feminine jumpers with a canine motif, pinstripes become less American gangster and more cutesy.  

There were trenches, tailored jackets and boxy rich-girl cover-ups with leather trims, sumptuous faux-fur collars and patent piping . A cream silk shirt with a double collar - black and then frothy ruffles - had us gasping for more. As seen at Unique, we’ll be wearing ours with a flapper-esque drop-waist skirt or tucked into pleat front high-waist trousers and with an elegantly mannish overcoat slung over our shoulders.

Swinging skirts hung swung below prim tops and everything was belted, belted, belted with a canine twist! Pencil stripes circled midi lengths and matching two pieces, while doggy detail prints ran across tops and bottoms alike.

A devore city sky-scape soared on sheer dresses with twisted fronts that revealed a sliver of skin here and there and made us want to go dancing at a speakeasy, while a marabou feather coat was one of the most glamorous pieces we've seen in an age!

From the T-bar peep toes inspired by chorus-line girls to the black and white dog-spot furry boots, the ladylike boxy handbags, and the Art Deco jewels, the accessories at the Unique AW11 show were more desirable than ever.

Whether you’re all for off-duty chic or you’re a glamorous girl, this collection will steal your heart. And if, like us, you’ve always secretly wanted an enormous maribou wrap-up to swan about town in then you’re going to feel right at home!
